Introducing ‘Niles Reads! Top 100 Books’

Help the Niles District Library create a list of its first ever “Niles Reads! Top 100 books” list.

The library will collect votes from patrons and community members all summer long and publish the list in September. There will be a list for adult books and another list for kids/young adults books.

To vote, ask a staff member at the library for a ballot, email marketing@nileslibrary.net or vote online at www.nileslibrary.com.

Kids and Teens — Summer Reading is here

The calendars and schedules are printed, and available to take home. Keep track or reading minutes and record them on a calendar.

Bring the calendar to the youth services desk and a staff member will add up the minutes. The more people read, the more prizes they can win.

Calendars can be found at the Youth Services Desk, online on our website and Facebook page.

• 2 to 5 p.m. – Gaming Underground

Today’s featured games: D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder

This will be a regular Monday game. Today is character creation so the first six PCs to show get to roll up characters and Race for the Galaxy:

In the award-winning card game “Race for the Galaxy,” players build galactic civilizations by playing game cards in front of them that represent worlds or technical and social developments. Some worlds allow players to produce goods, which can be consumed later to gain either card draws or victory points when the appropriate technologies are available to them. These are mainly provided by the developments and worlds that are not able to produce, but the fancier production worlds also give these bonuses.

For Gaming Underground, the library has turned downstairs into a game room. Bring a game or play one of the library’s.

All ages are welcome, but kids under 12 years old need to have an adult in the building.

The library hopes this area will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, but adult volunteers are needed.

To be a volunteer, please email laura.hollister@nileslibrary.net
