Niles baseball splits with No. 4-ranked Decatur

DECATUR — Visiting Niles split a pair of non-conference baseball games with Decatur Thursday.

The Vikings (21-11) took the first game from the Raiders 11-0 in six innings.

Decatur, ranked No. 2 in Division 4, rebounded to win the nightcap 11-7.

Cody Thornton tossed a two-hitter for Niles in the opening game with six strikeouts and just one walk.

The Vikings had five hits, including a triple by Drew Huffman and a double by Chris Frantz.

Wyatt Thornton took the loss in the second game.

Niles had nine hits, including a triple by Bryce Lake and a double by Wyatt Thornton.

The Vikings will host Berrien Springs in a non-league doubleheader at 10 a.m. Saturday.
