Buchanan Garden Club to dedicate Blue Star Memorial Marker

The Buchanan Garden Club is sponsoring a Blue Star Memorial Marker, which will be dedicated at 11 a.m. on Independence Day, Saturday, July 4, at the Buchanan Garden Club Gazebo Garden at 107 West Front St. The public is invited.

Blue Star Memorials honor the service and sacrifice of all veterans, past, present and future. It is hoped that past, present — and future — members of the United States Armed Services will be present for the dedication.

Robert Feldman, chairman of the Blue Star Committee for the club, announced that at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, garden club members will gather to prepare the area and to plant perennials where the Blue Star Memorial marker will be located.

A large part of the gazebo garden has been set aside to accommodate the memorial.

Last fall, garden club members, led by club president Liz Miller, decided to order the marker — a 12-inch by 20-inch plaque — which will be mounted on a large boulder in the gazebo garden.

Buchanan’s American Legion Ralph Rumbaugh Post 51 has been partnering with the club in planning the memorial and preparing for the dedication ceremony.
