What’s happening at the Niles District Library?

The Niles District Library will offer the following free events and activities this week. A library card is not needed to participate in any programs. Monday, May 18- Saturday, May 23

Food For Fines

All week long, people can bring in non-perishable food items for the St. Mary’s Christian Service Center to reduce or pay off fines. Those with no fines who wish to bring in donations are welcome to, as the library will deliver them to St. Mary’s.

 

Tuesday, May 19

• 10 a.m. – The Connection (Emergency Shelter Services)

Representatives will be at Niles District Library on the second and third Tuesdays of every month. For questions or information, contact Lashonda at (269) 277-5055

• 6 p.m. — Art Reception with Jacqueline Baerwald

Book sculptures that illustrate issues of growing up. “Melondy, Issues of Adolescence.”

 

Wednesday, May 20

• Multiple times — Storytime day

• 6:30 p.m. — Readers Circle Book Group

Books are available at the info desk. New members welcome.

• 6:30 p.m. — Pax Christi: Update on Immigration Reform

Pax Christi of Southwestern Michigan will be hosting an update on immigration issues. The speaker will be attorney John Hughes of Berrien Springs. Attorney Hughes will speak on various topics related to immigration and possible reform of the immigration law. There will be time for audience questions. Come to be updated on this important topic. All are welcome. The meeting will be held at the Niles District Library in the Community Room.

 

Thursday, May 21

• 10:30 a.m. — Special Edition – Zumba Dance Party

Everyone is invited to move with the library. All ages and abilities are welcome, but the library is particularly accessible for special needs adults and their families. As always, books and games are also available.

• 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. — Storytime

• 1 p.m. — American Mahjong

• 4 p.m. — Teen Movie Night

Join the library for movies and popcorn from 4-6 p.m. in the classroom.

 

Friday, May 22

• 1 p.m. — Twisted Stitches

Bring yarn or a sewing project and enjoy a cup of coffee. All skill levels welcome.

 

Saturday, May 23

• 10 a.m. — Practical Self-defense and Awareness Workshop: Part 2

This two part class is for women ages 14 and up (Great mother/daughter aunt/niece opportunity). Topics will include self-defense techniques and environmental awareness: walking safety, parking lot safety, dating safety, wrist grabs, etc. Women participants only. Sexual assault and trafficking will be frankly discussed. Please ensure younger participants are prepared for this. Wear loose, comfortable clothing the first week. Wear date or going-out clothes the second week.

• 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Teen Anime Marathon

This is an all day, all anime event with anime crafts, Asian food, and anime showings.
