A juvenile male has confessed to stealing more than $1,500 in frozen food and ice cream from a Niles Dairy Queen.

Chief Jim Millin, of the Niles Police Department, said detectives identified a 16-year-old male from Niles as a suspect in the break-in of an outdoor freezer at the west side Dairy Queen, located at 322 Grant St.

Millin said the juvenile admitted to making off with a large quantity of items, including chicken strips, hamburger, ice cream cakes and Dilly Bars.

“Detectives interviewed him and got him to confess,” Millin said.

The suspect’s name is not being released because he is a juvenile.

Millin said Friday morning that detectives are looking into leads on a couple of other suspects and that the case remains open.

Police said the break-in occurred either late Monday evening or early Tuesday morning after the Dairy Queen had closed for the day.
