Update 2: Corrected the spelling of “Stineback.”

UpdateAuthorities have named the suspect in this incident as Terry Ray Stineback, 44. He was charged with murder and assault with intent to murder during his arraignment Wednesday afternoon. He is being held without bond in Cass County Jail.

Authorities with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office have released the name of the woman who was shot to death at a Wayne Township residence outside Dowagiac Tuesday night, according to a press release from the department.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Laura Jean Stineback, of Dowagiac. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene from several gunshot wounds, after police found her body inside the residence at 24639 Flanders St. at around 9:48 p.m. while responding to a call about a shooting at the residence.

Also present in the home at the time of the shooting was Stineback’s husband and 9-year-old daughter, who both fled from the home after the police’s arrival. The victim’s husband was taken into custody for questioning; he is currently being held at the Cass County Correctional Facility, and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Cass County Court on a charge of murder and attempted murder. His name will be released following the hearing.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office believe that Stineback’s shooting followed a verbal and physical argument between she and her husband, which police say escalated into the use of deadly force by the latter.

An autopsy is being performed at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids to determine Steinback’s exact cause of death. The 9-year-old daughter, who was reported unharmed, has been placed with family friends after an examination at the hospital.

An additional update from the sheriff’s office is expected following the suspect’s arraignment.
