Feb. 17, 1917 — May 7, 2015

At the age of 98, the spirit of Mary Ann Tice departed this earth on May 7, 2015, in Goshen, Indiana.

Mary was born to Florian and Anna (Hodal) Hradel in Niles, on Feb. 17, 1917. She married her high school sweetheart, Damon H. Tice, on Jan. 21, 1939. He predeceased her in November 2003. They had four children: Beverly (Rudolf) Stegelmann, Goshen, Indiana; Kathryn (Donald) Felten, Green Cove Springs, Florida; Michael (Roberta), South Bend, Indiana; George (Toni), Ft. Collins, Colorado; who are among her survivors. Also surviving is a brother in Niles, G. Edward Hradel; seven grandchildren, Michele (Jeff) Radkey, Venice, Florida; Michael (Julie) Ruhling, Rochester, New York; Marc Ruhling, Goshen; John (Karla) Berridge, Middleburg, Florida; Jeffrey Berridge, Indianapolis, Indiana; Damon M. Tice, South Bend; Daniel Tice, Elkhart, Indiana; 10 great-grandchildren; three 1/2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband she was predeceased by two sisters, Ella Rose and Anne Brelowski; and six brothers, Joseph, Frank, Louis, William, and two infants.

After graduating from Niles High School in 1934, Mary worked at Simplicity Pattern for 5 years. Later in life she was a para-professional at Washington High School in South Bend for 15 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, and their Altar Society where she was funeral luncheon chairwoman for almost 25 years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed a game whenever she could get four together who played. As an active member of the Christ Child Society, she participated in the city wide bridge marathons for many years. She loved any type of card or board game, was always adept at learning new ones, and was competitive to the end. After retirement, Las Vegas was one of her favorite places to visit as was ‘The Boat’ in Michigan City. She was also a really good, old fashioned, cook and baker.

Mary lived at The Sanctuary at St Paul’s in South Bend for several years, had resided at Waterford Crossing in Goshen since 2010, and was recently transferred to The Maples in Goshen.

Visitation will be from 5 to7 p.m. Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr, South Bend, Indiana, with a Parish Rosary at 5:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with interment to follow at Highland Cemetery.
