BERRIEN SPRINGS — Logan McMeeken scored a pair of second half goals as the Dowagiac soccer team picked up its first victory of the season Thursday.
The Chieftains edged host Berrien Springs 3-2 in the final regular season Wolverine Conference West Division match of the year.
Berrien Springs led 2-1 at halftime on a Dowagiac own goal and an Emily Herdklotz goal in the 15th minute.
The Chieftains (1-11, 1-4 West) cut the lead to 2-1 on a Drew Andrade goal a minute later.
McMeeken’s goals game in the 56th and 72nd minutes.
“It feels good to finally get our first win of the season,” Dowagiac coach Ryan Haines said. “The first half we came out too sluggish and it hurt us in the first 15 minutes. Once we settled down after halftime the game flowed in our direction and we were able to get more shots on goal and come out with a win.”
Dowagiac will host Sturgis in the first round of the Wolverine Conference Tournament at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
