Vikings split with Mustangs

PORTAGE — Visiting Niles split at SMAC West Division doubleheader with Portage Central Tuesday.
The No. 6-ranked (Division 2) Vikings won the first game 4-2, but dropped the nightcap 10-0 in six innings.
In the opener, Austin Lintz worked the first four innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Jacob Hamm pitched the final three innings without allowing a run and giving up just one hit.
The Vikings finished with eight hits, led by Jordan Ham, who doubled and drove in two runs. Drew Huffman, who was 3-for-4, doubled and drove in a run.
Niles managed only two hits against Steven Corcoran, who replaced starter Jeff Criswell after one inning. Corcoran struck out 10 and did not walk a batter.
Jordyn Muffley doubled and homered for the Mustangs, who improve to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the SMAC West.
Jake Huffman took the loss for the Vikings, who fall to 10-3 and 3-3 in the West.
