A 22-hit attack led the Edwardsburg Eddies to a 15-6 victory over host Dowagiac and a sweep of the Chieftains in Wolverine Conference West Division softball Tuesday.

The Eddies won the nightcap 5-2.

“We knew Edwardsburg was a good hitting team and they proved it tonight,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We contained them in the second game, but just couldn’t get our bats going to put any pressure on them. Their pitcher did a nice job of keeping us off balance and making us take some weak swings. We did rebound and compete in the second game but need to learn to be aggressive and not be afraid to make plays if we are going to beat good teams like Edwardsburg.”

Edwardsburg (15-2, 4-2 West) scored 15 runs on 22 hits, including three home runs and four doubles off of Dowagiac pitchers Megan Soderbloom and Sabrina Ruiz.

McKenzie Creed had a pair of home runs and a double for the Eddies, who also got a home run from Savannah Dixon. Layne Stinnett, Rachel Bordon and Hanna Shoupe all doubled for Edwardsburg.

Dowagiac finished with 11 hits as Mickie Kiggins tripled, while Soderbloom was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Taylor Hulett also doubled.

The nightcap was much more competitive with the Eddies scoring scoring three runs in the top of the seventh and then holding on for the victory.

Edwardsburg had 14 more hits in the second game, including three by Creed and two each by Kailee Claire, Hannah Shoupe and Kaylee Ryker. Dixon added a triple.

Dowagiac got doubles from Mickie Kiggins and McKenzie Herter.

Delaney Peters was the winning pitcher in both games for the Eddies.

Taylor Hulett suffered the loss in the second game for the Chieftains, who fall to 11-6 overall and 2-4 in the West Division.
