Roger S. Tharp, 71, of Niles passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles.
He was born to Stanton Miller and Vivian (Sherburn) Tharp on Jan. 14, 1944, in Niles.

On April 30, 1966, Roger wed Sandra Weaver at a ceremony in Niles.
Roger was always a hard-working and devoted husband. He was an extremely caring and compassionate man who always offered to lend a hand wherever needed. He also enjoyed spending time and taking care of his mother. Roger also enjoyed time outdoors gardening and bird watching. He also loved taking his great-grandsons for rides on his tractor and spent countless hours fixing and repairing lawnmowers. One of Roger’s favorite past times was listening to the police scanner and sharing those stories with friends daily at the local coffee shop. Those who were closest to Roger knew that he was his happiest when surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly.
Roger was preceded in death by his father, Stanton M. Tharp.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Tharp of Niles, his mother, Vivian Tharp of Niles, his son Roger II (Jessica) Tharp of Eau Claire, his two grandchildren, Michael (Emily) Tharp of Niles and Travis Tharp of Eau Claire, and his two great-grandsons Ryan and Logan. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Gee Gee) Tharp of North Manchester, Indiana and his two sisters, Selva (Earl) Garson of Mishawaka and Lois (Richard) Sherman of Niles as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services for Roger will be at Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at 1 p.m. An interment will be held at Daily Cemetery in Cassopolis.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honor of Roger may do so to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
