Many people don’t like change in their lives.

Edwardsburg High School senior Jesse Reinebold embraces it.

Reinebold has learned to grow through the challenges that have been part of his life on and off the baseball diamond.

For family reasons, “home sweet home” has had a different meaning to Reinebold.

“My dad spent 20 years in the Army,” Reinebold said. “Living abroad, I lived in Japan and England each for two years. I’ve lived in about 10 different houses.”

Reinebold was asked where he’s enjoyed living the most.

“It’s hard to say,” he said. “I really liked it in Florida and I really like it here too.”

Edwardsburg High School was a perfect landing spot for Reinebold to play baseball. He spent two years attending Penn High School and playing baseball there for the freshmen and junior varsity teams before transferring to Edwardsburg High School.

“It was just a better fit for me,” Reinebold said about the move to Edwardsburg.

Reinebold has become a valuable member of the Eddies’ varsity baseball team because of his ability to play several positions. He’s played second base, shortstop, pitched and caught for Edwardsburg.

“I had to do that a lot last year too,” Reinebold said about playing different positions. “Wherever coach needs me is where I play. As long as I’m playing I’m happy.”

“He’s just a great all-around player,” Edwardsburg baseball coach A.J. Gaideski said about Reinebold. “We can put him any place and he gets the job done.”

In the Eddies’ doubleheader on Apr. 20 against St. Joseph, Reinebold pitched, caught and played second base.

In the opener won by the Bears, 5-3, Reinebold collected an RBI groundout and on the mound allowed no earned runs and one hit over two and a 1/3 innings. He singled in game two in a 1-0 loss to St. Joseph and for the season Reinebold is batting .400 with seven RBIs.

“It was kind of a rough day because we didn’t get a win,” Reinebold said. “We’ve just got to play better next time.”

Reinebold, who just played second base at Penn High School, has worked on improving his game.

“Practice has helped me,” Reinebold said. “The baseball coaches at Edwardsburg have been the greatest help. I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Because of his improvement as a baseball player and his strong academic standing (3.6 grade-point average), Reinebold will play baseball next year at the Merchant Marine Academy, which is a little school outside of New York City on Long Island.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” Reinebold said. “It’s a really tough school to get into. Their academics are really good and I can play baseball there so it’s a win-win situation for me.

“Academically, they’re really good in engineering. I’m going to major in some kind of Deck major so I can potentially run a crew ship or commercial shipping after I graduate.

“I never really thought about that kind of major until their baseball coach talked to me about it. It sounded like a great opportunity and a lot of fun.”

Packing a suitcase should be no problem for Reinebold.
