KALAMAZOO The Western Michigan football team is pairing up with the WMU Office of Military and Veteran Affairs for the annual Spring “Wooden Oar” Game at 1 p.m. on April 18.

The game is free to the public, but the team and the Office of Military and Veteran Affairs are asking fans to bring care package items that will be sent to student veterans deployed overseas. The WMU Student Veterans of America and Broncos for Heroes organizations will be collecting the items at the gates.

“The Office of MIlitary and Veteran Affairs is an ELITE organization on campus and we are proud to be teaming up with them for our Spring Game,” head coach P.J. Fleck said. “Care packages are an easy way for us and our fans to give back to those who sacrifice so much for us on a daily basis and give us the freedom to play the greatest game on Earth. Thank you for rowing with us and our troops!”

The athletic department will also be at the Western Michigan ROTC 6th Annual 5k Run/Walk benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project earlier in the morning. WMU will hand out replica stadiums to entrants and encourage them to come to the 1 p.m. game.
