DePaul-Minnesota postgame notes

NOTRE DAME — Here are the postgame notes from DePaul’s 79-72 victory over Minnesota:

DePaul Notes:

• This is DePaul’s 13th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and the program’s 20th NCAA Championship appearance overall.

• DePaul is one of only seven schools to appear in each of the previous 13 tournaments.  • The 13 consecutive appearances for DePaul is a program record for most consecutive tournament appearances.

• DePaul is now 13-19 (.406) all-time in NCAA Championship play.

• The Blue Demons are now 27-7 overall on the season.

• Chanise Jenkins hit her 152nd career 3-point field goal in the contest.

• Brittany Hrynko passed the 300 mark in career steals, earning her 303rd career steal against the Golden Gophers.

• Jenkins recorded her 25th game this season with double-digit points.

• Megan Podkowa scored double-digit points for the 26th time this season.  She also topped the 20-point mark for the sixth time this season.

• Brooke Schulte reached the double-digit points mark for the 11th time this season.

• Brittany Hrynko notched her 676th career assist which gives her the school record for career assists with 676 career assists.

• Hrynko scored double-digit points for the 31st time this season.

 

Minnesota Notes:

• First-year coach Marlene Stollings coached in her first NCAA Championship game.

• Minnesota is now 11-9 all-time in the NCAA Championship.

• With the loss, the Golden Gophers fell to a .500 record in South Bend during tournament play, posting a 2-2 record at Purcell Pavilion.

• In 1982, during the only prior meeting between Minnesota and DePaul, Minnesota was victorious 82-64.  Minnesota is now 1-1 all-time against the Blue Demons.

• Sophomore center Amanda Zahui B. set a single-game Minnesota NCAA Championship record with 22 rebounds.  It was the 4th time in her career that she has recorded at least 20 rebounds.

• Scoring 19 points, Zahui B. posted her 42nd career double-double, which is the third-most in program history. She recorded 23 double-doubles during the regular season, the second-most in the Big Ten Conference. Her five assists tied a career-high.

• Senior forward Shae Kelley scored 17 points in her final game, the 28th double-digit outing of her career.

• Freshman guard Carlie Wagner hit three three-pointers in the first-half en route to scoring 14 points.

• With the loss, Minnesota fell to 10-3 in NCAA Championship play when leading at halftime.
