PAW PAW — The battle for first place in the Wolverine Conference West Division was a good one Friday night.

Visiting Dowagiac bolted out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and then had to hold off a late charge by host Paw Paw in a 74-67 Chieftains victory.

The Redskins cut the Dowagiac lead to 42-33 by halftime and to 51-44 at the end of the third quarter.

Both teams were on fire offensively in the final eight minutes as the Chieftains and Redskins both finished with 23 points.

The win improved Dowagiac to 11-2 overall and 6-1 in the West Division.

The Chieftains will face second place Edwardsburg Friday night at 7:15 p.m.
