Mary Elizabeth (Lewandowski) Lawrence, 87, of Dowagiac, passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at The Timbers in Dowagiac

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church, 212 N. Front Street in Dowagiac with Father Kevin Covert officiating. A brief time of visitation will be held along with a prayer service at 10 a.m. at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services, 405 Center Street, Dowagiac followed by a procession to Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery on Praire Ronde Street in Dowagiac. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Clark Chapel & Cremation Services with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Holy Maternity of Mary Catholic Church for Calvary Cemetery improvements. Mary was born June 24, 1927, in Dowagiac to Ignacy and Mary (Krizinski) Lewandowski. She attended Dowagiac Union High School and graduated in 1945. She was a lifelong resident of Dowagiac and worked at Caruso’s Candy Kitchen while in high school. She also worked at Burnett’s Packing Company in Keeler and at Kroger’s in Dowagiac. Mary retired from the former Community State Bank, now Huntington Bank, in Dowagiac and was the assistant to the Vice President of the bank. She was a lifelong member of Holy Maternity Catholic Church in Dowagiac and a longtime volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Rosary Guild.

Mary is survived by two sons, William (Judy) Lawrence and Thomas (Lynne) Lawrence, both from Dowagiac. She also leaves behind six grandchildren; Jenny Taylor, Sara Lawrence, Austin Lawrence, Cameron Lawrence, Mara Lawrence and Brian Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings; Sabina (Tom) Nash, Stella (Steve) Plucienik, Henry Lewandowski, Jenny (Jack) Nusbaum, Anna (Terry) Kidman, Helen Lewandowski, and also a very dear cousin, Alice Lee.
