COA presents ‘World-Wide Webb Miller’

Published 6:30 pm Monday, October 27, 2014

Webb Miller was born in 1891 and was a graduate of Dowagiac High School.  He liked track and field, football and reported for the school paper. That inauspicious beginning might seem hardly the making of a world famous war correspondent and writer. Miller began his journalism career as a freelancer and reported on General John J. Pershing’s expedition to Mexico in pursuit of Pancho Villa. And that is just the beginning of his incredible life.

If you have an interest in learning the rest of the fascinating history of Miller, join Steve Arseneau, Director of the Dowagiac Area History Museum at the COA’s Front Street Crossing on Monday, Nov. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and at the Lowe Center in Cassopolis from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Steve will take you on the journey of  Miller as a war correspondent, as a Pulitzer Prize nominee for his report on a gory death, as well as his interviews with Adolf Hitler and Mussolini.

Miller’s story is one for a movie script and includes his being kidnapped, a gift from Gandhi and his mysterious death. Don’t miss this event about a truly fascinating character born and bred right in Dowagiac.
