Owens Tech still perfect in conference play

KIRTLAND, OHIO — The Owens Community College women’s volleyball team battled an improved Lakeland Community College team on the road Wednesday and came out on top as they won in straight sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-19) to remain perfect in conference play.

Macy Reigelsperger (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) led the team with 15 kills, while Erika Hartings (Coldwater/Coldwater, Ohio) had eight kills with a .538 hitting percentage. Additionally, Ally Mikesell (St. Henry/St. Henry, Ohio) added six kills and Amara Hemenway (Bellevue/Bellevue, Ohio) had fie kills with a .444 hitting percentage.

Jessica Cooper (Brandywine) and Deanna Smith (Riverview/Riverview, Michigan) led the team in assists with 20 and 15 respectively. Cooper picked up a team-high two of the team’s five services aces.

Ciarra Wirick (Benjamin Logan/West Liberty, Ohio) had a team-high 11 digs. Aricka LaVoy (Eastwood/Pemberville, Ohio) added seven and Reigelsperger had five, as well.

Reigelsperger led the team in blocks as she had four assisted and one solo, while Mikesell and Hemenway had two solo blocks apiece.

Overall, the team finished with a .301 hitting percentage.

Stephanie Kipp (Ida/Monroe, Michigan) returned to action after missing several games. She hit .285 with four kills.

Owens is now 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) play. The winners of five straight, Owens will be back in action this weekend as they host Cincinnati State Technical and Community College at 6 p.m. on Friday before traveling to Columbus State Community College on Saturday at 12 p.m. Columbus State is ranked 14th in the nation and are currently undefeated.
