SOUTH BEND — The Niles varsity volleyball team fell to South Bend St. Joe in four sets, 10-25, 15-25, 25-23 and 17-25.

“They were a very tough serving team and had a couple strong hitters who gave us problems early on,” Niles coach Jenny Nate said. “It took a couple sets for us to relax, adjust our block and get our serve receive focused. We came on strong in the third set and were able to run our offense more effectively, which allowed us to pull ahead and win.

“The last set we battled, and our defense pulled out some great digs, but we just couldn’t finish.”

Niles will compete in the Kalamazoo Loy Norris Invitational Saturday.
