Delbert Michael Werner, 69, of Niles, died Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2014, at his home following an illness.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1944, in Niles to Kenneth Adolph and Gloria Mae (Fox) Werner. He was graduated from high school in Jackson, Michigan, and has lived in Niles most of his life. He enlisted in the U. S. Army, served five years, and was a veteran of the Viet Nam Era. In the Army, he received some training as a metallurgist, but spent most of his civilian career driving a taxicab.
Mike enjoyed fishing in the Saint Joseph River, and could often be found there. He also enjoyed all aspects of photography, and his dog, Duchess.
Surviving family includes his father, Kenneth Werner of Niles; brother Tim McKamey of Covington, Indiana and sister Sandra Powell Freeman of Richmond, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews and a circle of friends in his community.
His mother, Gloria died in 1992.
The family will gather privately at the Halbritter Funeral Home to share memories and receive the Veteran’s Flag.
