Dowagiac All-Stars advance at Little League State Tournament

MUSKEGON — The Dowagiac 10-11 All-Stars wrapped up pool play at the Michigan Little League State baseball tournament in Muskegon with a 3-0 record.

Dowagiac defeated Harbor Springs 10-8 in its opening game Friday and then knocked off Ypsilanti North 13-7 on Saturday. The All-Stars advanced to single-elimination play today by defeating Marquette American 15-3 Sunday morning.

Against Ypsilanti North on Saturday, Dowagiac led 8-2 before a fifth inning rally by North closed the gap to 8-6.

The Dowagiac All-Stars scored five runs in the sixth to remain undefeated.

There are 16 teams, all district champions, competing for the state championship and the right to advance to the Central Regional in Indianapolis, Indiana July 31-Aug. 9.

The winner of the Central Regional will compete in the 75th Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

There are four pools of four teams. Pool play began Friday and concluded Sunday with the top two teams from each pool advancing to single-elimination play, which begins today.

Dowagiac faced the second place team from Pool B at 9 a.m. today.
