Chieftains’ top doubles team a third seed

Dowagiac’s No. 1 doubles team of Gabby Leonard and Madison Proshwitz have had an outstanding season.
The team recently finished third at the Wolverine Conference Tournament.
After receiving a first round bye, Leonard and Proshwitz defeated Vicksburg’s Megan Foster and Kia Hall 6-2 and 6-3 before falling to eventual champion Allegan (Emmarie Gorby and Blake Day) 6-1 and 6-0 in the semifinals.
In the consolation bracket, the Chieftains duo defeated Edwardsburg’s Katie Engle and Zoe Laubach 6-2 and 6-2 to earn the third place finish.
Dowagiac’s Charlotte Sievers and Luda Dickson-French finished sixth at No. 2 and No. 3 singles.
The Chieftains will compete in the Division 4 Regional Tournament Monday at Leeper Park in South Bend.
The tournament was originally scheduled for Thursday, but due to cold and wet conditions through Saturday, the event was moved to 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Leonard and Proshwitz earned a No. 3 seed in the regional and will have a first round bye before facing the winner of the Eau Claire and Bridgman match.
Leonard and Proshwitz are the lone seeded players.

No. 4 doubles – Lexi Chorba-Mary Bonomo vs. Brenda Lewellen-Carly Lentz (Coloma)
