Edwardsburg sweeps Dowagiac

The Edwardsburg baseball team moved a step closer to a Wolverine West Division championship with a sweep of visiting Dowagiac Tuesday.

The Eddies scored 12 runs on 11 hits in winning the opening game 12-1.

The Chieftains were a bit more competitive in the nightcap, falling to Edwardsburg 5-4.

Garrett Bronkema tossed a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Offensively, Maris Marazita, Jesse Reinebold, Jackson Gaideski and Dylan Hulett all had two hits for the Eddies.

Edwardsburg scored the winning run in the sixth when Maris Marazita walk and then stole second and third before scoring on a fielder’s choice ground ball to second by Jesse Reinebold.

Dowagiac outhit the Eddies in the nightcap 8-6 with Austin Broda doubling for the Chieftains.
