Dowagiac holds off Cassopolis rally

Dowagiac’s Brody Froehlich allowed two hits and doubled and drove in a run as the Chieftains held off Cassopolis 5-4 to remain undefeated on the season.

Dowagiac (2-0) scored two runs in the third and fifth inning to build a 5-0 advantage before the Rangers (0-1) scored four runs over the final four innings to close the gap.

Dean Klann came on in the top of the seventh to shut down the Cassopolis rally to earn the save.

Besides Froehlich, Dowagiac also got doubles from Daquan Brooks and Matt Smith. Rollie Lucio drove in a pair of runs for the Chieftains.
