Ann Traynor, M.D., previously of Vassalboro, Maine, has joined the medical staff of Cassopolis Family Clinic. She is board certified in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Traynor received her Doctorate from George Washington University in 1983, followed by a Residency in Internal Medicine from the University of Vermont. In 1990, Dr. Traynor completed a Fellowship in Hematology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. followed by a Fellowship in Oncology completion at Northwestern University in 1992.
Prior to her career at the Cassopolis Family Clinic, Traynor spent a majority of her career as a medical professor at Northwestern University (Hematology and Oncology Division, Division of Immune and Stem Cell Transplant) and University Massachusetts Medical School (Stem Cell Transplant). In 2010, Traynor opened her own practice in Maine for Internal medicine, including Hematology referrals and consultation.
After four years of operating her own practice, Traynor and her family return to the Midwest region to live closer to relatives.
“As a native Chicagoan, I have always thought of Southwest Michigan as a place with most of the sophistication of Chicago or Detroit, but with less pollution and less crime,” Traynor said. “I decided to come back to the Midwest to be near my brothers and sisters and their children and also to allow my daughter proximity to them and the Midwestern universities.”
Even though she has relocated, one thing has remained constant: her lifetime dedication toward prevention of cancer and blood related diseases.
“After years of working in tertiary care, I am more committed than ever to prevention and to establishing healthy habits which can be transmitted effectively from parent to child and even from grandparent to grandchild,” Traynor said of her transition to family medicine. “What I like about family medicine is that I can assist in the unscrambling of health education. Advocating for one’s own health doesn’t have to be complex or expensive, and often people’s common sense is their best guide when it comes to shaping their own healthy lifestyle.”
