Rowena “Ronnie” Whitmyer, 88, of Cassopolis, died peacefully Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Cass County Medical Care Facility.

Rowena was born May 11, 1925 in Mapleton, Maine to Thomas and Eva (Judkins) Pye, Sr. She married Walter Robert Whitmyer May 15, 1945 in Portland, Maine. He preceded her in death May 27, 1997. She was also preceded by her parents; one son, Billy Whitmyer; one sister, Ella Grueter; and one brother, Thomas Pye, Jr.

Ronnie loved being active, whether volunteering at the VFW, playing bingo or just playing with her dogs. She loved spending time with her grandkids.

Ronnie will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Shirley (Glen) Stone of Lynnville, Tennessee; three sons, Walter “Bob” Whitmyer, Jr., of Bridgman, Michigan, Melvin “Buddy” (Beverly) Whitmyer of Greenland, New Hampshire, Dennis Whitmyer of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Erskine of Harvey, Louisiana; two brothers, Donald (Reba) Pye of Dowagiac, Michigan, Clyde Pye of Port Jefferson, New York; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 4 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, with the Reverend Paul Doellinger officiating. Mrs. Whitmyer’s remains will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Walter Whitmyer, Sr., in Reames and Norton Cemetery, Cassopolis.
