Charlene Kaye Johnson, 63, of Niles, died at 4:05 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Hospice House in Roseland, Ind. following an extended illness.

She born on Oct. 20, 1950, in Niles to Charles and Irene (Spooner) Clifton. She graduated from Buchanan High School, and has lived in this area all of her life. She was employed for many years in the offices of Clark Equipment. She also helped at the family business, Babalony’s Pizza.

On Feb. 2, 1980, in Niles she married John J. Johnson who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Clifton.

Surviving family includes her son, Ryan K. (Lindsey) Johnson, M.D. of Northville, Mich.; a step-son, John J. (Sherrie) Johnson, Jr. of Niles; Charlene’s brother, Charles “Butch” Clifton, Jr. of Niles; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Charlene Kaye Johnson will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Whittaker of Michiana Christian Embassy officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Johnson may be made to Hospice House c/o the Center for Hospice Care.
