Castelucci, Edwardsburg win county spelling bee

Edwardsburg’s Anthony Castelucci was the winner of the 2014 Cass County Spelling Bee held at Southwestern Michigan College Feb. 24.

Castelucci is the first Edwardsburg sixth grader to win the grades five through eight county-wide spelling bee in more than a decade.

Edwardsburg also took second place with Robert Clark and fifth place with Maddie LaPierre to give the Eddies first place overall as a team.

Cassopolis, which finished second, was led by Daniel Young’s third place effort as an individual.

Dowagiac’s Ricky Haskell finished fourth as the Chieftains also finished fourth as a team.

Marcellus took fourth place.
