The owners of The Morris Estate wedding chapel are in the process of transforming the former Millennium Steakhouse restaurant, located at 1245 S. 11th St. in Niles, into a venue for wedding receptions, parties and private events.

Amber Janowski, who owns The Morris Estate with her husband, Braden, said they plan to open The Supper Club in June.

It will be used exclusively for private events such as business meetings, graduation parties and charity events.

“Basically it will be for any get-together for large groups of people,” she said.

The Millennium Steakhouse closed in January of 2012 due to declining business. It had been in operation since 2001.

The Janowskis purchased the Millennium Steakhouse at auction last fall with the goal of offering a place for indoor wedding receptions.

Amber said they average about 40 weddings a year at the Morris Estate wedding chapel. Almost all of their clients, she said, ask where they can have an indoor reception. With a lack of options nearby, Amber would often refer them to places in South Bend, Ind., or St. Joseph.

“I feel like they are constantly asking for it and I don’t have a good answer for them. I think it will be great to give them an option to stay in Niles and keep that wedding business local,” she said. “I don’t want to send them away because it also brings in the hotel business, rehearsal dinner business and people going to local restaurants and stores.”

The look and feel of The Supper Club will mirror that of The Morris Estate wedding chapel.

“A lot of clients we get are interested in the vintage vibe, so we decided to go along those lines,” Amber said. “It will be the style of a vintage hotel lobby with lots of velvet, crystal and silver. It will be very plush and a little bit glitzy, but still with the vintage vibe.”

The Janowskis gutted the steakhouse’s main dining area, removing the restaurant style booths and seats to create a flexible open space.

“People can plan their own layout,” she said.

The inside will feature a bar, dance floor, lighting, built-in sound system and DJ booth.

The Janowskis purchased the Morris Estate land in 2010. Since then, they’ve renovated the chapel to enhance their growing wedding and wedding reception business. Amber said they draw in a wide range of clients from areas ranging from Niles to South Bend to Chicago.

“We have a really good mix and because of that we offer a lot of package options so we can offer something for anyone from any area and any budget,” she said.
