Chieftains hold off Plainwell 61-58

The Dowagiac boys basketball team capped off its regular season with a 61-58 win over Plainwell in a Wolverine Conference crossover game Thursday night.

The win improves the Chieftains’ to 10-9 heading into Monday’s Class B District opener against Lakeshore in Stevensville. Dowagiac and the Lancers will square off in the second game beginning at approximately 8 p.m.

The Chieftains led 17-16 after one quarter and 34-29 at halftime. Dowagiac took a 47-43 lead into the final eight minutes and then held off a challenge from the Trojans.

Brandon Winchster-Jones and Kyle Solloway both had 16 points for Dowagiac, while Davion Highsmith added 10.

E.J. Finch led Plainwell and all scorers with 24 points. Cart Yaw added 19.
