The Edwardsburg Intermediate fourth grade will be performing a concert on Monday at the Edwardsburg Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.

This concert will highlight music from the four regions of the United States which are taught in their social studies curriculum.

For their concert, the students were given the honor to perform the Miami song entitled “Snow Song.” This tribal song is a prayer of thanks for the winter. This traditional Miami song was a gift to the music teacher, Michelle Gruver, and her students from the tribe’s drum keeper.

Native American songs are typically not performed by non-natives, unless they are given special permission.

Joanie Todt, a fourth grade parent, shared the Miami Indian tradition and “Snow Song” with Edwardsburg Intermediate fourth grade students in class on Feb. 3. Her family is part of the Miami tribe.

American Veterans will also be honored in this concert. Students will sing “Armed Forces Medley” and make a special presentation.

The public is invited and admission is free.
