Highsmith’s 26 points leads Chieftains past Rams

Davion Highsmith scored a game-high 26 points to lead the host Dowagiac boys basketball team to a 61-58 victory over Wolverine West Division leading South Haven Friday night.

The Rams’ loss coupled with Edwardsburg’s 50-47 win over Coloma, moves the Eddies into a first place tie with South Haven. Both teams are now 5-2 in division play.

Dowagiac is now just a game back at 4-3.

The Chieftains (8-6) led 18-15 after one quarter, but found themselves in a 32-32 deadlock at halftime.

Dowagiac opened up a slim 46-43 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Both teams scored 15 points in the final eight minutes.

Besides Highsmith’s offensive explosion, Dowagiac also got 15 points from Brandon Winchster-Jones.

Bradley Malki led the Rams with 17 points.
