Brandywine wins Lakeland wrestling title

Brandywine put the finishing touches on its Lakeland Conference championship Thursday night.

The Bobcats, who were 3-0 in the regular season, easily outdistanced runner-up Buchanan to win the league tournament at Brandywine High School.

On the strength of its seven individual champions, the Bobcats amassed 187 points. Buchanan, which had six champions, finished with 144 points.

Cassopolis was third with 110 and Bridgman/New Buffalo was fourth with 63.

Winning individual championships for Brandywine were Michael Kachur (103), Jesse Lochmondy (112), Paul Lochmondy (140), Brandon Earles (145), Vincent Sallee (160), Charlie Rodriguez (189) and Cory Katterheinrich (285).

The Bucks’ champions were Matt Strowzewski (119), Jacob Graham (130), Colin Wheetley (135), Jack Ruggles (152), Alex Brown (171) and Austin Hall (215).

Cassopolis’ Khalil Brown was the 125-pound champion.

Brandywine will host the Berrien-Cass-St. Joseph (BCS) Tournament Saturday.
