Limited time in the gym didn’t seem to affect the Brandywine girls basketball team Wednesday against Cassopolis.

The Bobcats hit 11 3-pointers and forced 39 turnovers in rolling past the Rangers, 65-15, in Lakeland Conference action.

It’s the 50th straight league win for Brandywine, which led 9-0 less than two minutes into the game.

“Our best offense is our defense,” said Bobcats coach Josh Hood. “We spaced the ball really good and spaced out our scoring. We don’t have a lot of stars on our team, but we have a lot of really good players and that’s what we’re proud of.”

Emily Erwin scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Brandywine. Tammy Lee and Michaela Hartline each added 10 points. Makenna Hartline grabbed 12 rebounds and Michaela Hartline had six.

“Tammy Lee is doing a phenomenal job right now being our floor general,” Hood said. “She’s able to find open girls. The Hartline twins bring a lot to the table when they average a combined 20 rebounds a game. They do a great job giving us second chances when we miss threes.”

It was Brandywine’s first game since Jan. 21 and the Bobcats had only practiced twice over the last seven days because of the bad weather.

“Our legs were a little tired and after the fast start you could sense that,” Hood said.

“(Brandywine) had its game on tonight,” said Cassopolis coach Nat Pittman. “We made mistakes and it seemed like we could never get things going. They’ve got a good press and they’ve got good quickness.”
