Chieftains rally to knock off Cassopolis

A 20-point second quarter lifted the Dowagiac girls basketball team to its third victory of the season.

The Chieftains outscored visiting Cassopolis 20-8 in the pivotal second quarter to take a 23-16 halftime advantage.

Both teams scored 19 second half points and Dowagiac came away with the 42-35 non-league victory.

The Chieftains’ lead reached 13-points by the end of the third quarter (33-20) before the Rangers rallied in the final eight minutes, but could not overcome the deficit.

Crieona Rodgers had 14 points to lead the Chieftains, who also got 12 points from Rayven Brown.

Kaylyn Forrest scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Rangers. She was the only Cassopolis player in double figures.

Dowagiac will travel to Comstock tonight for a Wolverine Conference non-divisional contest. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
