The new year is upon us and it’s back to work for some of the local sports teams.

Wrestling will dominate the weekend calendar with four teams heading off to tournaments.

The only event not featuring wrestling will be at Brandywine High School where the girls basketball team plays host to Bloomingdale in a non-conference make-up contest.

The varsity game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. Brandywine is 5-0 on the season heading into the contest.

The Bobcat wrestling team will also be in action Saturday as they head to Hillsdale for an invitational tournament scheduled to get under way at 9 a.m.

The Niles wrestling team will be headed up the coast of Lake Michigan to compete in the Muskegon Orchard View Invitational, which will also start at 9 a.m.

The Edwardsburg wrestling team is off to Jackson to compete in the Parma Western Invitational, while Cassopolis will compete in Berrien Springs.
