At least one lucky person can count on Martin’s Supermarket to provide him or her with a very merry, and profitable, Christmas.

According to the Mega Millions public relations office, one person purchased a ticket good for $1 million in Tuesday’s Mega Millions lottery at the Martin’s Supermarket on South 11th Street in Niles.

“The person matched the first five numbers to win a million,” said Gretchen Villarreal, public relations for Mega Millions in Lansing.

The mystery person is one of 20 $1 million winners across the country and the only one from Michigan. The jackpot, worth $648 million, went to two tickets purchased in California and Georgia.

Gretchen said three other Michiganders purchased tickets worth $20,000.

The identity of the Niles person who won $1 million will eventually be made public, assuming the person claims the ticket. Gretchen said Mega Millions would release the identity when the ticket is claimed.

“We have not heard from the winner yet,” Gretchen said early Wednesday morning.

Winners have one year to claim the prize.

Gretchen said Martin’s Supermarket would receive $2,000 for selling the $1 million ticket.
