Marie was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Kahoka, Ark. to Archie and Roxie (Shepard) Richardson.  Her career consisted of working at the Old Olympic Café, Corner Lunch. She owned the Thompson Café for 11 years, worked Master Cabinet Company, Wick’s Farm, and a Pastor. She enjoyed making quilts, feeding clothing and housing those in need. She was as beautiful on the inside as the outside and affectionately known within the Gitchell family as the “Barefoot Hillbilly”

She is survived by her children: Dolly (Eric) Eby of Dowagiac, Dorothy Yaw of Battle Creek, Mich., Frank Gitchell of Dowagiac, Bill (Cindy) Ruminer of Dowagiac and Chester Ruminer of Dowagiac; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; a few great great great grandchildren; two sisters: Rovilla Fulks of Mountain View, Arkansas and Alice Toney of Dowagiac.

Marie passed away in her home on Oct. 20, 2013.  She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter Heather Whyde, one grandson Jimmy Ruminer, one sister Hattie Canard and two brothers Leonard and Ray Richardson.

Her family will have a gathering Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Chapel, 405 Center St., Dowagiac, Mich.  A funeral service will be at Clark Chapel, Friday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.  Burial will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Please sign Marie’s guestbook and leave a memory of her at www.clarkch.com.
