Evelyn L. (Schmeltz) Mark, 93, of Niles, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at West Woods of Niles, following a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 21, 1920 in Walkerton, Indiana to the late Otto W. and Bertha (Walter) Schmeltz.

Evelyn graduated from Walkerton High School class of 1938. On October 12, 1947 Evelyn married Peter E. Mark at a ceremony in Niles, Michigan.

A homemaker most of her life, Evelyn also cooked for many local establishments. She enjoyed participating in both bowling and golf leagues. Evelyn was a gifted baker and was known as “The Cookie Lady” around town. Evelyn was a loving grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Peter E. Mark, three brothers Virgil, Linder and Ralph Schmeltz and a sister Violet Kolmer.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters Linda Robb (Mike Fowler) of Newport News, Virginia and Brenda (Dennis) Waggoner of Dowagiac, three grandchildren; Eric (Michele) Robb of Niles, Alicia Waggoner (Dana) of South Bend, and Aaron (Nichole) Waggoner of Edwardsburg, six great-grandchildren, a brother Arthur Schmeltz of Walkerton, a sister Wanda (Norm) Jones of Michigan City and a sister-in-law Norma Schmeltz of Walkerton.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m.
