Though the days may be getting shorter and the weather is growing colder by the hour; The Brandywine Bobcats football team’s hot streak to begin their season appears to be far from flaming out.

The Bobcats used an extra stingy defense and a strike-from-anywhere offense to burn the visiting New Buffalo Bison 47-2 in Brandywine’s home opener on Friday night.

In its first three games, Brandywine has rolled up 125 points while only surrendering eight points to its competition.

Six of the seven Brandywine touchdowns came from beyond the red zone with two of those plays coming from 50-plus yards out. The Bobcats racked-up 268 yards in total offense while only allowing 69 yards total for New Buffalo.

Dual-threat Bobcat junior quarterback Andrew Duckett and junior tailback Marty Ward put on a show for the Bobcat faithful at Selge Field as they ran (and in Duckett’s case, passed) through, over and around every Bison defender on the field.

Duckett finished the night 4-of-7 passing for 65 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 63 yards on the ground and provided the game’s first touchdown on a spectacular scramble that turned into a 52-yard rushing touchdown. Not to be outdone, Ward carried the ball six times for 89 yards and literally ran over multiple Bison on his way to scoring touchdowns from 25 and 55 yards out.

Bobcat coach Mike Nate was elated about his team’s play and said that if his kids can “remain grounded” that the sky would be the limit for this team.

“We’re 3-0 and we’re right where we want to be. We have high expectations. We have to keep things rolling. Our defense has been the driving force all year, I can’t say enough about them. Our kids have really bought in to what we’re selling them and they’re seeing the results. We have big things on the mind,” Nate said.

Brandywine will hope to continue its on field dominance when it opens up its conference play next week, when they host the Bridgman Bees on Friday at 7pm.
