Big first half leads to easy Mendon victory

Perennial powerhouse Mendon rolled into Cassopolis and made short work of the Rangers Friday night.

The Hornets (2-0) scored 20 points in each of the first two quarters and went on to knock off the Rangers 53-7.

Mitchell Coler scored three touchdowns, while quarterback Jordan Medich threw for a score and ran for a touchdown.

Also scoring for Mendon were Robert Riley, Elijah Klepper and Parker Cupp.

The Rangers (1-1) averted the shutout in the third quarter when Trevon Brown hauled in a VaShaun Morgan 21-yard scoring strike. Matt Locke added the extra point.

The Hornets stung the Cassopolis defense for 329 yards of total offense, of which, 284 came on the ground led by Coler’s 136 yards.

The Rangers finished with just 95 yards of total offense. Mendon held Cassopolis to 74 yards rushing and 21 yards passing. Morgan’s lone completion of the night was good for the touchdown.

Cassopolis will try to get back on the winning track Friday night when it travels to Indiana to take on Gary Wallace.
