Brandywine hopes to extend streak to five games

The Brandywine football team will be looking to improve to 2-0 for the third straight year as it heads to Centreville to face the Bulldogs Friday night.

The Bobcats (1-0) won their season opener against Hobart River Forest 29-6.

Marty Ward had a pair of touchdown runs for the Bobcats as he led the offense with 141 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Charlie Rodriguez added 76 yards on 10 carries, while quarterback Andrew Duckett connected with Trent Moskwinski for a pair of scoring strikes.

Duckett finished with 96 yards through the air.

On defense, Moskwinski  led the way with 10 tackles. Kenny Laurita added nine tackles and also had an interception.

Friday night, the Bobcats will be looking to extend their winning streak against the Bulldogs to five consecutive games. Brandywine won 27-14 last season.

Centreville lost its season opener to Lakeland Conference opponent Bridgman 30-13.

Demarco Taylor led the Bulldogs with 140 yards rushing. Zach Teadt was 5-of-8 for 51 yards.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

 

Sturgis at Niles

One of the top quarterbacks in the state of Michigan will be the opponent of the Niles Vikings in their season opener Friday night.

Chance Stewart and the Sturgis Trojans come to town for a Big 16 non-divisional clash.

Both teams come into the contest seeking their first victory of the season.

Niles was blanked by Battle Creek Lakeview 28-0, while Sturgis fell to Portage Central 55-0.

Stewart originally committed to Wisconsin during his junior year, but a change of coaches for the Badgers made him de-commit and switch to Western Michigan University.

Stewart was 9-of-18 last week for 84 yards and three interceptions.

Matthew Phillips was the leading rusher for the Trojans with 48 yards.

Niles will be looking to get on track offensively.

The Vikings managed just 122 yards in total offense against Lakeview.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
