The Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life surpassed its fundraising goal, raising $83,011.08 as of Wednesday evening.

Margaret Dawson, with N-B Relay for Life, said the organization set a goal of $76,000.

“We are ecstatic,” she said. “It speaks volumes for our community and how we pulled together for this cause. I am so proud of that.”

People can still donate up until Aug. 31.

Last year the event raised $72,000.

“Our participation was up, our teams were up, the money raised is up — things are looking up,” Dawson said.

The N-B Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society. Dawson said they shared this year’s total at the 2013 wrap-up party Wednesday evening.

Next year’s relay event is set for July 19 at Niles High School.

“We are always looking for volunteers or new teams,” Dawson said.
