The Dowagiac Elks Junior Golf Program recently wrapped up its 15th season at the Elks Golf Course.

The program enjoyed another successful summer with 36 golfers taking part, which concluded with its annual tournament and awards luncheon. Each of the participants received a framed certificate.

“I want to congratulate all the golfers who participated and thank all the volunteers who helped make this year’s program a success,” said Dick Morey, league director. “All of the DUHS boys golf team helped this year. Most of the Dowagiac Union High golf team players got their start in the Elks program.”

The program, which was started by former Dowagiac Mayor Dr. James Burke and Audrey Atkinson, is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14. The program met once a week on Mondays at the Elks Club Golf Course.

This program taught basic golf shots, golf rules and good golf etiquette.
