Rain delayed the conclusion of the 40th annual Dowagiac City Tennis Tournament by a week.

The tournament wrapped up Saturday at the Dowagiac Middle School with the mixed doubles tournament.

There were just three teams entered in this year’s event, so it was played under a round robin format.

Due to an injury that kept her out of the entire tournament, Alex Watts was unable to defend her title Saturday.

Instead, Sue Watson and Dave Negron captured the championship after winning a pair of matches.

Watson and Negron defeated Kaley and David Brogan 6-1 and 6-0 in the first round, while Michael and Alyssa Robbins defeated Team Brogan in the second round, 6-0 and 6-0.

For the championship, Watson and Negron defeated Team Robbins 6-2 and 7-5.
