Living around here it is easy to see the appeal of this beloved state, but many on the East and West coasts, even in the rest of the world, seem to overlook the area.

But some, like Nick Yoder, owner of Flyover Press, want to change that.

“I grew tired of there being very few brands that celebrated being from the Midwest,” Yoder said. “This part of the country is often overlooked and ignored and I saw all these brands that were making products that really resonated with other parts of the country and I wanted that for me.”

Flyover Press is a new online shop based in Edwardsburg that sells clothes, prints and accessories that, in the words of Yoder, “evoke pride in being where we are from.” Flyover Press’ logo is an outline of the Midwest accompanied by a shaft of wheat and an ear of corn, the two main crops of the Midwest.

“We’ll make products that show our love for where we’re from but we’ll do it in a way that doesn’t put down other regions,” Yoder said. “There seems to be this mindset in other regions of the country where their region is the best and everything else is second rate and that’s something I want to avoid. As much as I love the Midwest, I also really enjoy visiting other parts of the country.”

Flyover Press is looking forward to continued growth and expansion. Yoder hopes to soon enter some local stores around Lake Michigan’s coast. Flyover already has a wide client base.

Though the Midwest is made up of only 12 states, Flyover Press has already seen orders from 19 states.
“We’ve found transplants from coast to coast with orders shipped to both Maine and California,” he said. “It brightens my day every time I receive an email or a tweet from a customer letting me know how happy they are that there is a brand representing where they are from. Customers have been particularly excited that there is now a brand available representative of their region of the country.”

All Flyover Press products are created in the US and eventually Yoder hopes they will all be made in the Midwest. Three percent of all sales go to non-profits in the Midwest.
