John William Waters, 74, left Lansing, Mich., to be with his Lord in his heavenly home on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012. John was a former educator and track coach in the Detroit public school district.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Joann Doby-Waters; daughter, Alicia Currington (mother Barbara) of Belleville; parents, Joseph and Flora of Dowagiac; brothers, James (Nancy) of Muskegon, Leroy of Benton Harbor and Larry (Adrienne) of Elm Grove, Wis.; nieces, Cheryl, Angela and Karyn; nephews, Noah, Mark, Sekou, Marcus and Eric; special first cousins, Sammy, Johnny, Doroth, and Maurice; step-children, Damany and DiArra Doby; granddaughter, Kaiya Doby; close friend, James Chambers; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit Mr. Waters on Friday, Dec. 21, 2 to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St., Lansing, MI (www.rileyfuneralhome.com).

Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5200 Pleasant Grove Rd., Lansing.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service.

Burial and graveside services at 3 p.m. in Dowagiac at Riverside Cemetery.
