Niles man extricated after head-on crash

A Niles man had to be extricated from his vehicle after a two-car crash in Howard Township at 9:19 a.m. Thursday.
Nicholas Mathias, 24, was heading northeast on M-60 near Burn Lynd Street when an oncoming vehicle, exiting a curve, crossed into this lane causing a head-on collision. Fire department personnel extricated Mathias from his vehicle, and Mathias was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Michael Milewski, 25, of Niles, was operating the other vehicle and was treated at the scene.
Seat belts were used, and alcohol was not a factor. This case remains under investigation.
Assisting the Cass County Sheriff’s Department were Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Service, Howard Township first responders, Howard Township Fire Department and the Michigan State Police.
