Double donations to help Cassopolis band program

The Cassopolis Ross Beatty Junior/Senior High School band program will get the chance to receive double the donations for a new tuba this week thanks to the website’s incentive to get communities to donate anything they can.

Music director Beth Anderson received an email this week that notified teachers of the site’s use of a promotional code, which promises to double any donation given to the project, no matter the amount. Anderson, who used the website once before to help purchase reeds, metronomes, tuners and valve oil, said the one-week opportunity is a chance to help lower the $2,423 amount the band still needs to receive their tuba.

“We never know when we’ll get codes like this,” Anderson said Tuesday. “They send us an email letting us know to look for it, but they’re never scheduled so that we expect them.”

The code asks any donor who wishes to give funds to the project to enter the code “PUMPKIN” into the designated field on the website, www.donorschoose.org. Donors can go to the site, type “Cassopolis” in the search bar and click on the project, which explains that the band has three tuba players but only two tubas.

“My thought is that if you think your $10 isn’t going to go very far, this week your $10 becomes $20,” Anderson said.

The promotion lasts until Oct. 15 and the deadline for the project to raise the remaining $2,423 is Dec. 22.
