The Cassopolis Rangers hosted the Edwardsburg Eddies in a Lakeland conference varsity soccer matchup on a wet, soggy Monday afternoon.

The two Cass County rivals battled to a 0-0 tie.

“It was wet early on, but the field was draining fast,” said Cassopolis coach Oli Olafsson. “I don’t think the rain impacted the game too much today. We expected a low scoring game and thought one goal might win it today, and that’s the way it played out.”

Edwardsburg outshot the Rangers 14 to 10 but neither team could connect on goal.

“I thought Molly (Moroz) played great in goal today for them (Cass), and Sophie (Devenney) played well for us,” said Edwardsburg coach Brett Harring. “Overall you can’t fault the goalkeeping because it’s 0-0 on the scoreboard.”

Both teams had their opportunities to score, but defense was the storyline of the game.

Edwardsburg (5-3-1 overall 4-0-1 conference) will host Buchanan Thursday in a battle for the conference lead, while Cassopolis (7-4-2 overall, 2-1-2 conference) will host Coloma the same day.
